"The prince was old before his time. Candlelight from ballroom chandeliers softened the gray in his hair. He whirled yet another eligible young lady through a minuet, his movements practiced and sure, but he limped, round-shouldered. He was not yet twenty-five."

So begins this story, the tale of an unconventional price and his love. I was looking to write a story that upended the traditional "prince rescues damsel in distress" story line. Instead, prince and damsel are both damaged, and they need to rescue each other. However, abuse often leaves lifelong scars, and happily ever after isn't always possible. I hope this story reflects these sad truths, while letting the characters live their own versions of happiness.
